MPs pledge to raise parliamentary questions following AXREM-facilitated visits

AXREM has facilitated visits from two politicians to Canon Medical locations, highlighting the role of industry in supporting NHS imaging. MP for Crawley Peter Lamb visited Canon Medical Systems’ UK headquarters in Crawley, while MP for Sheffield South East Clive Betts visited the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield. Discussions centred on the age profile of imaging equipment across the NHS, the government’s pledge to double scanner capacity and the critical role industry must play in delivering on this ambition, particularly in the context of the 10 Year Health Plan.
At the Crawley office, Lamb engaged with senior leaders on the importance of modernising diagnostic infrastructure and the need for sustained investment in technology. The conversation underscored the urgency of replacing outdated equipment to ensure equitable access to timely diagnosis. At the medical arena, also home to the LivingCare Diagnostic Centre, Betts saw firsthand how diagnostic services embedded in community settings can reduce waiting times, improve accessibility and support workforce wellbeing.
Both MPs committed to raising parliamentary questions to further the dialogue around imaging capacity, equipment age and equitable access. They also heard about local issues during the visits, pledging to explore these further and advocate for solutions that reflect the needs of their constituents. AXREM CEO Sally Edgington said: “By bringing MPs to the heart of innovation and community care, we’re not only informing national strategy, we’re shaping it.”
