Muamba opens cardiac unit at Burton Hospital

Opening Burton Hospitals’ cardiac unit are Davina Emmerson and retired footballer Fabrice Muamba.
Retired Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba was a guest of honour at the opening of Burton Hospitals’ cardiac unit in February.
Muamba, who suffered a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup quarter-final tie against Tottenham last year, was joined at the opening by family members of a local benefactor who left a bequest to fund the £1.5 million facility in Staffordshire.
He said: “My experience proved to me that hospitals and centres which provide accessible, expert care are vital. That is why I am so delighted to be at the opening of this facility. I know it will be so important in providing care to those who need it for years to come.”
Burton Hospitals’ lead consultant cardiologist Dr Howard Why said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to the development of this unit. We are hugely appreciative to the Thornley family for their donation. To have Fabrice Muamba jointly opening the unit with Davina Emmerson is a really exciting event, which we hope will underline how beneficial this will be for thousands of patients in the coming years.
“InHealth has been invaluable with their professional input and we now look forward to working with it to deliver these services to our patients.”
