Naeotom Alpha class brings photon-counting CT into routine practice

Siemens Naeotom Alpha

The Naeotom Alpha CT systems from Siemens Healthineers bring photon-counting CT into routine clinical practice and are said to be transforming how clinicians visualise the body. “As the world’s first commercially available photon-counting CT systems, the Naeotom Alpha.Prime, Naeotom Alpha.Pro and Naeotom Alpha.Peak move beyond conventional CT technology to deliver images with exceptional clarity, contrast and diagnostic confidence,” the company states.

At the heart of the systems is quantum technology, featuring QuantaMax detectors that directly convert individual x-ray photons into electrical signals. By counting each photon and measuring its energy, the systems generate richer spectral data for every scan, enabling ultra high spatial resolution and detailed functional insights without increasing dose. Siemens says that clinicians can now visualise intricate anatomical structures, from coronary vessels to subtle lesions, with outstanding precision.

In cardiology, the Naeotom Alpha range enables non-invasive assessment of patients with heavy calcification who may have previously been challenging to evaluate. For oncology and neurology, the improved contrast and resolution support earlier, more confident diagnosis and treatment planning. Vulnerable populations such as children and patients with lung disease can benefit from quality imaging at lower doses.
