Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s new community diagnostic centre (CDC) at Norwich Research Park has taken delivery of the Simple Up lift platform from Rothband (WSR Medical Solutions).

The lift platform allows patients to be raised easily and safely to the best height for weight-bearing x-rays of lower limbs. From a very low step up position the platform can be raised to 84cm, with a maximum weight limit of 200kg.

In addition, the platform can be used for chest x-rays by using it as an electrically height adjustable ‘chair’ in front of the chest stand. The platform itself can be moved around the room on its wheels, and these automatically retract once in position, making it secure on the floor. This ergonomically designed platform offers increased safety not just for patients but also for staff , offering them a more comfortable posture by not having to bend down repeatedly.

General radiography and reporting radiographer service lead Emma Key-Yeomans commented: “We have used Simple Ups for many years now, and they are an invaluable tool for our service. Most of our knee and foot/ankle x-rays are taken weight bearing. The Simple Up allows patients to be raised safely and can be used for patients who are unable to climb steps due to the low initial height.”

The centre was built as part of a programme to deliver CDCs at each of the three hospitals in Norfolk and Waveney, offering ultrasound, x-ray, CT and MR scanning seven days a week. At full capacity, the team is expected to see 430 patients a day.
