A cancer centre in Nottingham has been officially launched with a little help from some of the patients who were among the first to be treated there.
The Park Cancer Centre was developed as a joint venture by BMI The Park Hospital and Cancer Partners UK, to provide fast access to integrated cancer treatments including chemotherapy and advanced radiotherapy.
Cancer Partners UK medical director Professor Karol Sikora explained: “Technology at the centre includes IMRT where the tumour receives high doses of radiotherapy, while we are able to minimise the impact on surrounding healthy tissue.
“We combine this with daily IGRT which takes 3D images prior to each treatment session to ensure that the radiotherapy accurately targets the tumour, which is especially useful for tumours that move within the body.”
