Alliance Medical has launched what is said to be the UK’s first fully integrated PETCT within a community diagnostic centre (CDC) at Oldham. This milestone aims to enhance diagnostic imaging and inspire further integration of PETCT services across the UK’s CDCs. The goal is to provide quicker diagnoses, better treatment plans and reduce the pressures on large hospitals. The scanner improves accessibility and healthcare equity, significantly impacting patient outcomes, especially in oncology and neurology, the company says.
Alliance Medical molecular imaging specialist adviser Angela Meadows explained: “Integrating molecular imaging within CDCs allows clinicians to detect and monitor conditions with greater accuracy and speed. Our aim is to streamline diagnostic pathways, ensuring patients receive the right test at the right time in the right setting. However, this integration is challenging and requires careful navigation of logistics, regulations and clinical governance. Success comes from trusted collaborations, robust workforce planning and innovative service design.”
Alliance Medical says that the success at Oldham demonstrates that integration of PETCT into CDCs is no longer a concept, but a proven model that has the power to reform how and where care is delivered. “The opportunity now is inviting wider collaboration across the NHS to make advanced diagnostics a standard part of accessible, equitable and local healthcare,” it says.
