Prone biopsy system launched in the UK

Hologic product manager, breast health, UK Emanuela Abello, product specialist EMEA, breast and skeletal health solutions Kathleen Lott and regional business manager, breast and skeletal health solutions, UK and Ireland, Ambrose Murray.

Hologic has introduced its Affirm prone biopsy system, first as a work in progress at RSNA, at ECR in Vienna and ultimately at Symposium Mammographicum in Liverpool.

The Affirm upright breast biopsy guidance system was introduced in 2014 to allow users to target areas only found with 3D mammography examinations.  The company says the Affirm upright system with 3D breast biopsy capabilities offered faster targeting, lower dose and improved performance when compared to conventional stereotactic biopsy systems.  It also provided a lightweight solution for biopsy that was integrated on to the Hologic tomosynthesis system in under a minute and could be pre-programmed to use Hologic’s Eviva and ATEC biopsy needles.
