Radiographers benefit from the MRI simulator introduced onto the Imaging Innovated Fundamental Skills in MRI course

Course attendees gained a significant benefit from a Corsmed MRI simulator on the recent Fundamental Skills in MRI course delivered by Imaging Innovated. The simulator offered improved understanding of the impact of using appropriate pulse sequences and changing scan parameters within Spin Echo, Gradient Echo and Inversion Recovery on resultant images.

Edward Proctor, co-founder and course director at Imaging Innovated explained: “The use of the Corsmed simulator enabled the effect of altering scan parameters to be shown in real time on resultant images. It was also excellent in illustrating key structural differences between different pulse sequences and relevant clinical usage. Following the success of using the simulator on the courses earlier this year, we will continue to provide this fully integrated solution to facilitate MRI learning.”

One of the attendees on the MRI Skills Course in April, Orlagh Hannaway, MRI radiographer from Dublin remarked: “I really enjoyed the course, especially that questions were encouraged and interaction from the group was necessary. It makes it so much more interesting. The slides were clear and concise and I really appreciated having access to the MRI Simulator for my understanding of altering parameters.”

The Fundamental Skills in MRI course, consisting of two study days and a self-paced e-Learning programme, focusses on clinical scenario-based learning to support application of theory to clinical practice, improving fundamental clinical skills in MRI. “This course was extremely good, well-structured and organised. It was surprisingly interactive, which I did not think was possible to do on zoom,” was a comment from another attendee, Sheryl Grey, MRI radiographer, Milton Keynes.

This course and the parallel Fundamental Skills in CT course enable staff to improve their clinical skills and to be trained to the highest standard quickly and effectively whilst limiting staff time away from their department.

Details on the dates of the next Fundamental Skills Courses in both CT and MRI and other courses offered for Radiographers are on the website.
