Royal Liverpool installs a bespoke nuclear medicine dispensing station

Bartec Technologies and Raditech have installed a bespoke nuclear medicine dispensing workstation in the nuclear medicine department of Royal Liverpool University Hospital. The department required a dedicated dispensing preparation area at relatively short notice.

Departmental manager Elaine Noonan said: “We recognised our service needed somewhere on site where we could draw radioactive material for our patients. So we went out to tender and Bartec provided the best value and turnaround time, which was very important to us.”

Bartec and Raditech designed and produced a nuclear medicine dispensing workstation complete with integrated shielding, built-in dose calibrator and waste disposal, an extractor, fridge and surrounding bench space, plus a shielded bin enclosure with lead lining and a pedal-operated lid, to fit the space available.

Senior nuclear medicine technician Christopher Mayes said: “This was a whole package that was delivered very rapidly and we are very pleased with the result.”

Bartec sales specialist Scott Taylor added: “These units are made to measure, allowing the customer to make the most of the space available, which in this case was a factor. They are designed and manufactured in the UK using locally-sourced materials, which helps on a number of levels, not only in terms of reducing the carbon footprint but also in ensuring complete co-operation throughout this project in particular.”
