Royal Marsden receives modern MRI from Fairford Medical to continue services during lengthy capital upgrade

Fairford Medical has been supporting The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust with an unstaffed interim mobile MRI to provide scanning services while the trust undertakes a lengthy capital upgrade at its original west London site.

Fairford Medical initially delivered one of its three-year-old mobile Siemens Avanto MRI systems, but offered to replace it as soon as possible with a specially ordered new Siemens Aera mobile, to align the interim system with the trust’s internal scanners that run Siemens’ E11 software. This will ensure consistent image quality across all scanners, which is especially important at a cancer hospital as it benchmarks therapy and treatment response on imaging. The Siemens Aera was delivered ahead of schedule and replaced the mobile Avanto in March.

To boost productivity and workflow and to maximise patient experience, Fairford Medical also installed a bespoke reception pod, which the company says has proved as popular with staff as it has with patients.

Together with University College London Hospitals and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, the Royal Marsden forms a designated Cancer Hub for London, managing patient flows across all available capacity in NHS and independent sectors and ensuring the necessary capacity for critical care for cancer patients.

Divisional director of clinical services Marguerite Meintjes said: “The Royal Marsden has very exacting needs and insists on very high standards of quality and comfort for our patients. By understanding those needs and translating them into innovative solutions, Fairford Medical has enabled us to maintain imaging services of the highest quality for our patients. Fairford’s commitment to new equipment and excellent service has been as refreshing as its positive can-do approach.”
