Scanner prompts plans for new guidelines

Toshiba Medical Systems applications specialist Louise Higgins, staff grade obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr S Guruswami, antenatal screening co-ordinator Lisa Pearce, registrars Dr P Sanderson, Dr S Howden, Dr D Morgan and consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Noor Khanem.
Barnsley District General Hospital’s antenatal department recently replaced an aged ultrasound system used by the consultant obstetricians with a Toshiba Aplio 400 scanner.
It will be used for scanning patients who are at high risk during their pregnancy for invasive testing, for example amniocentesis, and to further investigate fetal abnormalities picked up by sonographers.
Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Noor Khanem said: “We like the Toshiba equipment because of its ease of use and the fabulous images obtained. It will be an asset to our unit and we are looking to introduce new guidelines on the basis of the machine.”
