18Fluorine FDG PETCT: Current and future applications

Over the past decade, there has been a significant expansion of PETCT services in the UK, with an increasing number of examinations performed each year. Since April 2012, PETCT has been nationally commissioned by NHS England and in 2012 the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) released an intercollegiate document ‘Evidence-based indications for the use of PETCT in the UK’, which summarises a wide range of oncological and non-oncological applications for PETCT. An updated version of this document has recently been published and this article will highlight a few of the newer applications of 18fluorine fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PETCT along with illustrative case examples.
