CT of the heart – techniques and applications in oncology

Technical developments in cardiac CT have led to an increase in the applications of CT in the investigation of the heart and its pathologies.

We discuss the appropriateness of imaging the heart with CT in relation to oncology, considerations that should be made when investigating cardiac masses using case studies to illustrate our points and the possibilities for integration of cardiac CT from a sub specialised technique into routine imaging. Finally, we consider the importance of incidental cardiac findings in thoracic imaging performed for other reasons.
