Imaging of the abdomen and pelvis
The field of abdominal imaging is increasingly diverse, comprising a broad range of different pathologies which offer unique diagnostic challenges – the entire spectrum of imaging modalities is employed to help resolve these varied challenges. It is estimated that 4-10% of attendances to the emergency department are related to acute abdominal pain. Although clinical history, examination and laboratory tests all form an important part of the diagnostic process for acute abdominal pain, diagnostic accuracy in the acute setting improves dramatically with the support of acute imaging.
