Paediatric trauma imaging – similarities and differences to adult trauma practice
Paediatric trauma is less common than adult trauma; however, as is the nature of trauma, it can be unpredictable and will often present to adult institutions. In fact, Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN) data shows the majority of paediatric trauma, of all severities, across the UK are predominantly treated in ‘adult-orientated’ hospitals. For this reason it is important that the general radiologist is familiar with the fundamentals of paediatric imaging, which we try to illustrate below with relevant case examples.
