Pelvic skeletal findings on abdominal CT scans

The pelvis is a bony ring, interposed between the movable vertebrae of the vertebral column which it supports, and the lower limbs upon which it rests. It is composed of four bones: The two iliac bones laterally and in front, and the sacrum and coccyx behind.

The osseous pelvis is a well-recognised site of origin of numerous primary and secondary musculoskeletal tumours. In adults, the pelvic bone is one of the areas of the axial skeleton where haematopoietic red marrow predominates.
