A Scotland-wide programme of transforming radiology services is currently underway. Scottish NHS boards recognised several years ago that a range of issues were preventing radiology services being delivered effectively. The Scottish Government therefore provided a mandate for boards to examine these issues and devise solutions aimed at delivering a new sustainable service model. Through widespread engagement with clinicians, nurses, AHPs and management representatives an ambitious and wide-reaching business case was developed and approved by the Scottish Health Board chief executives in August 2017, securing a £4 million investment for diagnostic radiology services with a separate commitment to train 10 additional radiologists per year for the next five years.
