The role of the plain radiograph in tuberculosis
In the 21st century tuberculosis (TB) has re-emerged as a common health problem worldwide, both in developed and underdeveloped countries. There are around nine million new cases of active disease per year and TB accounts for around one million deaths annually. Despite immense efforts made to control and eradicate the disease, there has been an increase in its global prevalence, particularly in the immunocompromised patient group, with a rate of increase of approximately 1.1% per year. In addition, multi-drugresistant strains of TB continue to increase making treatment options in these patients more difficult.
