Ultrasound head and neck services
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) produced a substantial document in 2004, Improving Outcomes in Head and Neck Cancers, which stipulated that diagnostic one-stop clinics should be established for patients presenting with head and neck lumps. The document was dedicated to improving outcomes by developing devoted cancer services. One component of the text considers the initial investigation and diagnosis of neck lumps and makes some key recommendations. Among them are:
• diagnostic clinics should be established for patients with head and neck lumps;
• multidisciplinary teams (MDT) from a wide range of specialities are fundamental to the provided service.
