Use of abdominal FAST scanning in first opinion veterinary practice in the UK

In the UK, veterinary patients attend general practice, with a referral system to hospitals with specialist veterinary services if required in complicated cases. Clients are unable to self-refer their pets and the general practice is the first port of call for all preventative, chronic and emergency treatment. Traditionally, general practice also provided its own out-of-hours care, which meant all general practitioners saw a significant number of emergencies during their career and had a good level of competency in dealing with these cases.
