Sectra warns of dangers of data deluge in future

The future of radiology came under the spotlight at an event hosted by Sectra at the Imagination Gallery in London.
Presentations offered guests a view of the challenges facing the discipline, how the new government plans will affect radiology in practice and future technologies currently in the research domain. Hot topics were VNA’s, XDS-I, the data explosion and the next generation PACS requirements as outlined by the RCR Imaging Informatics Group.
Keynote speakers included DoH national clinical director for imaging Dr Erika Denton, Mayday Hospital clinical director Tony Newman Sanders, Centre of Medical Image Science and Visualisation, Sweden, director Anders Persson and Sectra product marketing and research manager Claes Lundstrom.
Tony Newman Sanders explored the challenges facing radiology today and offered telling insights into the realities of contract renewal, future proofing and related topics such as VNA and RIS/PACS systems as well as infrastructure. Claes Lundstrom presented discussions about future objectives, opportunities and challenges of radiology IT and expanded on the data explosion topic.
