Sharp images are ideal for Neath’s breast work

News

Neath Port Talbot Hospital mammographer Michelle Bubear, superintendent mammographer Anna Antoniazzi, consultant radiologist Dr Aisling Butler and breast services co-ordinator Marlene Jenkins.

Neath Port Talbot Hospital, part of ABM Health Board Wales, has purchased a Philips iU22 x Matrix ultrasound system for use as a dedicated breast scanner in the mammography/breast care suite.  It comes with two high frequency linear transducers and elastography software.

Consultant radiologist Dr Aisling Butler said: “Although ultrasound is a very subjective imaging modality, for breast work I find the sharp ‘contrasty’ images provided by the iU22, ideal for my purpose.  We find the elastography package very easy to access and use, so I am looking forward to incorporating elastography into my breast work in order to assess the relative tissue stiffness when imaging cysts, fibroadenomas and carcinomas.”
