Sherwood Forest takes ultrasound into the community

Ultrasound superintendent Alyson Feely with Hitachi Medical Systems applications manager Kay Rees-Thompson.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has purchased a Hitachi Noblus ultrasound system to provide a sonographer-led GP referral service based at the Sherwood Health Centre in Nottingham.
Ultrasound superintendent Alyson Feely said: “The non-obstetric ultrasound service will reduce waiting times for examinations and give local GPs direct access to ultrasound. It is popular with patients as access and parking at the health centre are much easier than coping with city centre congestion.
“The service is delivered by a team of expert sonographers fully supported by consultant radiologists via the integrated RIS and PACS. A second opinion is readily available and advice regarding on-going referral can be offered as required.”
