AI-powered reporting pioneer enters new chapter with acquisition of Fluency for Imaging

Smart Reporting, a well-established name in AI-driven diagnostic reporting, has announced a major transformation — unveiling a new identity as Jacobian. The rebrand follows the company’s acquisition of Fluency for Imaging, one of the leading radiology speech recognition and reporting platforms used by some of the largest imaging networks in the US and Australia.

The merger brings together two proven technologies and teams under a single banner, combining Smart Reporting’s standardised, guideline-based reporting and AI innovation with Fluency for Imaging’s Best in KLAS speech recognition and workflow expertise. The result is a unified platform designed to deliver faster, more consistent, and clinically aligned diagnostic reporting — with radiologists firmly at the centre.

Jacobian will operate globally, headquartered in Munich and Pittsburgh, processing over 80 million exams annually across North America, Europe, and Australia. The company’s name draws inspiration from mathematics: the Jacobian matrix describes how small shifts in multiple variables can create large-scale transformation — a fitting metaphor for the company’s mission to redefine diagnostic reporting through AI.

“Radiology is at a pivotal point,” said Professor Dr Wieland Sommer, founder of Smart Reporting. “With Jacobian, we’re combining trusted technology and clinical insight to help radiologists work faster and more accurately, supported by AI that enhances — not replaces — their expertise.”

Visitors to RSNA 2025 in Chicago, Illinois, can explore Jacobian’s integrated platform and see how generative and ambient AI are shaping the next era of diagnostic imaging. The company will showcase the combined Fluency for Imaging and SmartReports solutions at booth #1729.
