Spanish GP promotes use of POCUS in primary care

The potential of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for timely assessment and swift diagnosis in a primary care setting continues to attract GPs and Dr Pere Guirado, a doctor in Cataluña, Spain, is a long-standing advocate.
“The reaction of patients to being scanned at their local GP practice, or in their own home, has been entirely positive – their level of confidence increases,” said Dr Guirado. “Portable machines that are easy to carry around, quick to boot up and offer high quality images are essential, which is why I chose a Fujifilm SonoSite Edge II system.
“I have joined forces with other primary care physicians who have expertise in POCUS to set up a training scheme for Cataluña. This programme has been very popular and we completed 19 courses during the 2017-18 academic year. The partnership we have formed with Fujifilm SonoSite has been an important aspect of this success.”
