Speaker attends opening of Gamma Knife centre

The official opening of the Gamma Knife Centre at Queen Square Radiosurgery centre was attended by the Rt Hon Jon Bercow.
UK government and healthcare leaders, Gamma Knife radiosurgery experts and representatives of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery gathered in April for the official opening of the Gamma Knife Centre at Queen Square Radiosurgery Centre, London, by the Rt Hon John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons.
The centre treated its first patients last autumn using a Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion system from Elekta. “In terms of research, this addition will enable assessment and evaluation of a range of treatment modalities for brain disorders, particularly for brain metastases,” said neurosurgeon Mr Neil Kitchen. “Clinically, it is a well-accepted and proven technology that is a gentle and effective option to standard treatments for brain metastases and other brain disorders and that can prolong and improve a patient’s quality of life.”
