Streamlined breast biopsy services commence at Spire Murrayfield

Earlier this year the radiology department at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Wirral, began a new vacuum-assisted breast biopsy service using the Hologic Brevera breast biopsy system and its upgraded Selenia Dimensions digital mammography system.
Consultant radiologist Dr Asha Shivaram works at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and at Spire Murrayfield. She said: “I was thrilled that from start to finish our first procedure took just under 30 minutes and that biopsy specimens could be imaged in the room at the point of care, making the procedure more streamlined and more acceptable for the patient.”
Diagnostic imaging manager Judith Waters added: “This is one of 10 Brevera breast biopsy machines in the country and the only one in the north-west of England. We are very excited to be able to offer a complete imaging and biopsy service that includes tomosynthesis and tomobiopsy.”
Spire Murrayfield is a private hospital that offers patients fast access via consultant and external referrers. It is supported by advanced imaging and diagnostic technology.
