The Christie enhances radiotherapy provision with five Philips CT Big Bore RT scanners

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Europe’s largest cancer centre, has installed five Philips CT Big Bore RT systems across its sites in Macclesfield, Oldham, Salford and Manchester. With approximately 10,000 radiotherapy pre-treatment scans performed annually, this investment is expected to enhance clinical confidence and accelerate treatment times.
Radiotherapy pre-treatment manager Scott Hudson said: “Having five identical scanners across the trust increases capacity and improves accessibility for patients, allowing them to attend their nearest centre. Operationally, it helps us meet waiting list targets while standardising staff training, enabling seamless cross-site working without the need for additional scanner-specific training.”
The Christie integrated the Philips Technology Maximizer into its maintenance service agreement. This service package is designed to maximise clinical capabilities and equipment performance through software and hardware upgrades, ensuring technology remains up to date.
Deputy head of engineering Ryan Young explained: “Philips’ Technology Maximiser service package ensures all scanners remain at the latest hardware and software levels. This standardisation enhances workflow efficiency, maintains imaging consistency and maximises system longevity.”
