Three Calmed insufflators for Nevill Hall

Pictured following the handover of a Calmed Insufflator supplied by Vertec Scientific to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, are senior radiographer George Partridge, superintendent radiographer CT/MR Polly Watts, senior radiographer CT/MR Helen Dallyn, Vertec product specialist Gavin Adcock and senior radiographer CT/MR Caroline Ngatiah.

The Calmed CT1400 CO2 system is one of three supplied to the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.  It is designed to help examination of the bowel by CT colonography and features fully automatic operation throughout the scan.  A unique single-use tube set which is fitted with a special balloon catheter transports the gas from the insufflator to the patient.  Desired pressure is pre-set using touch keys, then checked and controlled throughout the procedure with two independent sensors.  Watts said: “This new insufflator is proving easy to use, well tolerated by patients and consistently provides optimum distension of the bowel.”
