The University of Hertfordshire has invested in its first CT scanner for the Department of Allied Health Professions and Midwifery, School of Health and Social Work.

From Toshiba Medical, the Aquilion 64 CT system will be used for teaching and research for the undergraduate and postgraduate radiography programmes, helping to contribute to the university’s objectives to remain at the forefront of health education for radiography.

Postgraduate subject lead and postgraduate programme tutor Louise Smith said: “Due to the constraints of the imaging service and ionising radiation implications it is not always possible for students to practise imaging techniques while on clinical placement.  The availability of this specialist equipment for simulation will greatly increase student understanding and confidence in the functioning and application of the modality, which will ultimately influence the quality of patient experience and care received.”
