Workflow intelligence helps achieve the right examination first time

Rosenfield Health workflow

Across many imaging departments, the causes of repeat imaging are often rooted not in equipment failure, but in referral inaccuracy. Rosenfield Health points out that incomplete clinical information, misinterpreted symptoms or incorrect modality selection can all result in inappropriate imaging requests. The medical technology company says this results in patients undergoing additional scans and radiology teams facing increased workload and reporting pressure.

Citing a study published in Insights into Imaging that shows 26 per cent of radiological examinations may be inappropriate or unnecessary, Rosenfield states: “By equipping referrers with intelligent decision support tools, healthcare organisations can verify that the selected examination is clinically appropriate, justified and optimised for diagnostic accuracy. Such systems not only guide referrers but also standardise workflows, reducing variability across departments and sites.

“By introducing intelligent referral vetting systems and decision support tools, healthcare providers can ensure the right modality is selected for the clinical question, the examination protocol matches patient-specific factors (age, weight, pregnancy, previous exposure) and duplicate or overlapping requests are flagged early.”

Rosenfield continues: “The key to sustainable radiation protection lies in workflow intelligence. When referral, vetting and imaging are seamlessly connected through solutions like iCode Vettpro patients are protected from repeat exposure, radiology teams achieve higher throughput without compromising quality and hospitals reduce wasted scanner time and improve report turnaround.”
