£1.6m upgrade boosts MRI at North Tees

Alliance Medical senior MRI radiographer Jennifer Croft and University Hospital of North Tees head of design Steven Taylor.
University Hospital of North Tees has improved its diagnostic imaging services with the installation of an advanced cardiac-enabled MRI scanner, part of a £1.6m investment by Alliance Medical and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
The Siemens 3.0T Magnetom Skyra MRI scanner replaces an existing 1.5T MRI scanner and will provide optimum information at diagnosis stage for a range of conditions. The Magnetom Skyra features an increased signal to noise ratio, generating high resolution three-dimensional imaging of organs and tissues while reducing examination times.
Trust clinical director for radiology Dr Matthew Trewhella said: “The installation is a welcome development at the hospital and a sound investment in improving patient care and experience. It will generate high quality images that will allow the hospital to undertake a greater number of routine and complex investigations.”
