Great Ormond Street’s SPECT/CT promotes a calming environment

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust has installed a Symbia Intevo Bold SPECT/CT from Siemens Healthineers.
The scanning room at GOSH helps to promote a calm and relaxing atmosphere in order to improve the patient experience and help children to stay still during scans. Colour changing LED lights, a sound system and projector mean the room can be transformed at the push of a button, taking the focus away from the scanner and reducing anxiety in younger patients.
Regional sales manager at Siemens Healthineers GB&I Nichola Yates said: “The customer focus was on improving patient experience when replacing the SPECT/CT. The Symbia Intevo Bold is intended to achieve this through optimising examination times as well as the installation of an amazing sound and lighting system, which works to provide a unique and calming experience for every patient.”
The Symbia Intevo Bold introduces accurate and reproducible quantitative SPECT/CT to enable a more accurate representation of the radiation dose and to facilitate treatment progress evaluation. In addition to SPECT a diagnostic CT allows contrast-enhanced CT examinations to be performed in one scan, with the aim of reducing the amount of times a child will need to be anaesthetised. The system also provides back-up CT to the main department.
