Ysbyty Gwynedd interventional radiology

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has purchased two Philips Azurion 7 interventional radiology suites, the first for Ysbyty Gwynedd and the second system for Glan Clwyd Hospital. It is envisaged that the new equipment will enable staff to carry out more procedures and help expand the service.

range of software assists chall-enging procedures through innovations in live image guidance, including XperCT, EmboGuide and Philips’ VesselNavigator, which allows re-use of 3D vascular anatomical information from existing CTA and MRA datasets as a 3D roadmap overlay on a live x-ray image. All these procedural solutions are seamlessly integrated into the Azurion 7 series to support clinical workflow.

Consultant interventional radiologist Dr Kakali Mitra at Ysbyty Gwynedd said: “The new theatre suite for interventional radiology brings an improvement for patients requiring minimally invasive surgery and the staff working in the department.

“We have been carrying out interventional radiology for a number of years, but the new facilities make the whole experience much more comfortable and safer for patients.”

The Azurion 7 series is equipped with DoseWise, a combination of techniques, programmes and practices that produce clinically relevant image quality during each application, while providing x-ray dose management.

It also comes with FlexVision Pro full table side control with 58″ high resolution LCD and Touch Screen Module Pro intuitive touch screen control. Imaging parameters can be quickly adjusted at the table side, and the need to leave the sterile field during cases is reduced.

Principal interventional radiographer for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Alan Atkinson commented: “The completion of the new suites really brings the organisation into the 21st century in terms of imaging equipment we use.

“We are achieving incredible image quality, allowing us to perform more complex procedures; the new facilities make the whole experience much more comfortable and safer for patients.”
