Professor Scarsbrook receives award in honour of Sir Godfrey Hounsfield

Professor Andrew Scarsbrook received the Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Memorial Award following delivery of his lecture ‘PETCT: from evolution to revolution’ to a packed auditorium at the BIR annual congress in November. He gave an in-depth analysis of the progress of PETCT from the early development years by Hounsfield through to the current day.

A dual-certified consultant in radiology and nuclear medicine at St James’s Institute of Oncology, Leeds, Professor Scarsbrook is also a professor of radiology at the University of Leeds.

Professor Scarsbrook said: “The invention of CT led by Sir Godfrey is widely considered one of the major medical developments of our times, which has had such a profound impact on patient management worldwide. One enduring legacy of his pioneering work has been the subsequent emergence of hybrid imaging combining CT with functional imaging, illustrated par excellence by PETCT, with wide ranging clinical and research applications. These developments have provided such a fertile area of study in my career to date.”
