Expansion at the Great Western

Taking a closer look are (from left) Rory Bremner, Siemens regional sales manager Darren Parker, radiology manager Gail Powell, consultant radiologist and clinical lead in radiology Dr Andy Beale.

Comedian Rory Bremner visited the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, part of Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to declare open an adaptable Somatom Definition AS+ CT from Siemens Healthcare.

The system is in close proximity to the hospital’s A&E department facilitating rapid access to diagnostic imaging.  The CT also scans a range of patients as part of a general imaging service.

The new system enables the trust to increase capacity with a view to allowing

same-day access for all CT scan requests.  Shorter waits for emergency patients was also a key priority, particularly those suffering from a suspected stroke.

A cardiac CT service has also been introduced, giving a boost to the number of referrals Great Western Hospital receives.
