Royal Free’s radiology department transformed

The second stage of a £10.5 million refurbishment to transform the Royal Free’s radiology department is now complete.

The project at the London hospital started in 2008, with the creation of a state-of-the-art interventional radiology and cardiology unit and refurbishment of the radiology waiting room.

Head of radiology Simone Towie said: “This has been a massive project for the department and we’d like to thank the whole team for their hard work and dedication.  We’ve managed to provide a full radiology service while the building work has been going on, which is a great achievement.

“The second phase of the project has totally transformed the unit, bringing benefits for staff and patients.  Digital x-ray saves time as it allows radiographers to view the image on screen almost immediately, instead of waiting five to 10 minutes for the image to be processed.”
