Dottir education platform aims to make interventional radiology learning an immersive experience

A global community education platform dedicated to advancing the field of interventional radiology and image-guided surgery has launched. Named in honour of Dr Charles Dotter, a pioneering figure in angioplasty and modern interventional radiology, the app reflects his legacy of innovation and accessibility in medical education.
Dottir brings together curated and user-submitted content including real clinical cases, procedural videos, question banks and interactive learning tools. By integrating resources from the IR Bites textbook, content libraries and the Sit EBIR examination bank, the aim is to provide a rich multimedia learning experience. “Think Radiopaedia meets Orthobullets, but tailored for interventional radiology and image-guided surgery,” the developers say. “We are building toward an immersive, app-based platform inspired by Touch Surgery, offering step-by-step walkthroughs of procedures and hands-on practice in a virtual format.”
Dottir is intended to serve learners at all stages, from undergraduates exploring the field through IR Bites modules to practising specialists preparing for the EBIR examination. By combining academic rigour with user-friendly tools, the aim is to help bridge gaps in image-guided surgical education.
“We collaborate with leading institutions and societies in radiology education, including the University of Cambridge, the British Society of Interventional Radiology, IR Juniors and Radiology Cafe,” the developers continue. “Our reach is growing, with partnerships extending into Europe and beyond through bodies like the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe.”
