Internationally-educated radiographers share their experiences and explore opportunities at IRC event

The Professional Alliance of Indian Radiographers (PAIR), a special interest group of The Society of Radiographers (SoR), was established last year with a mission to support internationally-educated radiographers across the UK. Since then, PAIR has become a visible voice for radiographers from diverse backgrounds. Through its ‘Resonate with PAIR’ webinar series and active social media engagement, the group continues to foster collaboration and professional growth.
Building on this, PAIR hosted its inaugural International Radiographers Conference (IRC 2025) in July at Apollo Buckingham Health Campus in Crewe. Themed Building Bridges in Radiology: Learn, Network and Thrive, the event attracted nearly 150 delegates from imaging specialities including general radiography, CT, MRI, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and ultrasound. The conference provided a platform for internationally educated radiographers to connect, share experiences and explore new opportunities.
The day was inaugurated virtually by Ashford MP Sojan Joseph, with opening keynotes by SoR CEO Richard Evans OBE and president of the ISRRT Dr Napapong Pongnapang, who set a tone of inspiration and inclusivity.
Among the speakers, the SoR’s Dean Rogers discussed partnerships and career pathways for international radiographers, Epiphania Muranda offered insights into culturally informed mental health support and director of AHPs Deepak Agnihotri shared career opportunities beyond clinical roles. Programme manager at LLR ICB Malany Kalicharan spoke on resilience in adapting to new systems and chief AHP information officer at NHS England Prabha Vijayakumar focused on the role of digital transformation in shaping allied health professions.
Shamie Kumar from Qure.ai spoke on AI in lung cancer care, pan-trust CT lead Afra Sulfikher highlighted communication risks in cross-sectional imaging, while senior lecturer and superintendent radiographer Dolly Cox showcased bespoke training strategies for internationally-educated staff. Plans for IRC 2026 are underway as PAIR works to strengthen the voice of internationally-educated radiographers in the UK.
