Radiology is under pressure: rising imaging volumes, workforce shortages and increasing complexity in breast cancer care are forcing providers to rethink how work gets done.

To address this challenge, Affidea, in collaboration with Biotronics3D and b-rayZ have joined forces to deliver an integrated mammography AI solution inside a PACS/RIS environment with the scope of streamlining radiologists’ workflow through real-time acquisition checks and integrated decision support, while reducing unnecessary repeat scans and enhancing the quality, safety and experience of breast care for patients.

Built around Affidea’s multi-country, multi-vendor operational reality, the solution brings b-rayZ’s advanced breast AI directly into Biotronics3D’s enterprise imaging platform, giving radiologists a single environment where images, AI insights and reporting come together.

By bringing b-rayZ’s advanced breast imaging AI into Biotronics3D’s imaging platform, radiologists, clinics and hospitals gain a single workspace where images, AI insights and reporting come together.

This starts even before interpretation, with b-rayZ ensuring that images acquired are complete and diagnostically reliable, eliminating one of the most common causes of repeat exposure and workflow disruption in breast imaging. By integrating quality assurance at the point of acquisition, the solution supports radiologists with cleaner, ready-to-read studies and contributes to fewer recalls, greater consistency and an overall better experience for patients.

Guided by Affidea’s vision for integrated care, AI belongs at the centre of the clinical workflow—elevating diagnostic quality, reducing variation and enabling faster, more personalised experiences for clinicians and patients alike.

“Radiology doesn’t need more disconnected tools, it needs connected intelligence,” said Dr Soeren Grimm, CEO, Biotronics3D. “By embedding b-rayZ directly into our PACS/RIS, we’re turning AI into an integrated co-pilot. Radiologists stay in one environment, with the context, images and AI they need in one place.”

Integrated breast imaging with AI

Breast cancer diagnostics have long suffered from fragmented workflows. The joint Biotronics3D and b-rayZ approach is designed to simplify that landscape.

The integration will enable radiologists to:

  • Validate image quality and completeness during acquisition, reducing recalls and ensuring that every exam entering the workflow is ready for interpretation
  • Standardise mammography workflows across sites and vendors
  • Use AI for image quality, density assessment and lesion detection while keeping radiologists in control
  • Reduce delays by surfacing AI insights inside the core diagnostic environment

At b-rayZ, our mission is to make high-quality breast cancer diagnostics more consistent and more accessible,” said Cristina Rossi, CEO and co-founder of b-rayZ. “By connecting our AI platform with Biotronics3D, we’re meeting radiologists where they work. This is not about adding one more screen; it’s about embedding clinically validated AI into daily workflow so teams can focus on confident decisions for every patient. With full integration at the point of reporting, the system delivers a complete, structured report, including exam quality, patient density profile, automated detection, and BI-RADS classification of pathological changes, all while keeping the radiologist in command and still benefiting from the advantages of automation.”

Affidea: innovation designed around clinical needs

With more than 420 clinics and a significant mammography footprint across Europe, Affidea is uniquely positioned to deploy this AI-enabled workflow at scale, generating consistent quality standards, faster reading times and a more predictable patient journey across countries.

“For large-scale providers like Affidea, eliminating repeat scans is crucial — it reduces patient inconvenience, accelerates radiology workflow efficiencies and frees up capacity across our centres. We set out the clinical and operational requirements that would allow AI to make a meaningful difference in breast imaging. Our role has been to anchor this integration in real clinical and operational needs, ensuring the technology delivers measurable value in throughput, quality and standardisation, improving the radiologists’ workflow. Therefore, we are proud to have initiated and supported this integration between a PACS provider and a breast AI innovator”, stated Dr Johann Alberts, chief digital solutions officer for Affidea Group.

By combining Biotronics3D’s cloud-native enterprise imaging platform with b-rayZ’s breast-focused AI, and aligning it with Affidea’s quality and early detection strategy, the integrated approach is designed to support higher throughput, earlier detection and a smoother patient journey, with fewer recalls and more standardised pathways. A significant contributor to this is the real-time acquisition verification by b-rayZ, which reduces unnecessary recalls and ensures that each exam entering the diagnostic workflow is already of validated quality by a reliable AI solution, supporting thus the radiologists.

Live demos at RSNA 2025

This integrated solution will be showcased at RSNA 2025, McCormick Place, Chicago, from Sunday, November 30 to Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the Biotronics3D stand, Booth 4173, South Hall. Live demos will run at scheduled times:

  • Sunday 30th November, 11:30 am CT
  • Monday 1st December, 11:30 am CT
  • Tuesday 2nd December, 11:30 am CT

Representatives from Affidea will join selected sessions at the booth to share how their clinical and operational needs shaped the development of this integrated solution, and how it supports their commitment to delivering accessible, patient-centred and innovation-driven healthcare across Europe.

Uniting technology and care for better outcomes
Biotronics3D, b-rayZ and Affidea believe in digital innovation that elevates performance, enhances patient experience and supports the long-term aspirations of radiology teams. At RSNA 2025, they will show how integrated AI can help make that a reality in breast imaging.
