Medray and Mater Private Hospital score a first

Physicist Paddy Gilligan, Mater Private Hospital clinical director of radiology Professor Stephen Eustace, Republic of Ireland  and Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given, clinical specialist radiographer Anne Marie Smyth and FAI medical director Dr Alan Byrne.

When the medical committees of the Football Association on Ireland and Irish Rugby Football Union were looking for a partner to install the first stadium radiography facility in Ireland at the Aviva stadium, Dublin, they selected Mater Private Hospital radiology department.

The hospital installed a mobile x-ray unit with a Carestream Vita computed radiography imaging system. A three million pixel screen is available to facilitate on the spot diagnosis and images can be burned to CD for players at the time, before transfer of image data to the Mater Private Carestream RIS/PACS system. The facility also boasts an ultrasound system for assessment of injuries.

Mater Private partnered with Medray, which worked hard to get the facility operational by the Ireland v Bosnia football game on the May 26, 2012.
