CEM educational event

Healthcare professionals from across Ireland gathered at Killashee Hotel, Co Kildare, for a dedicated educational event on contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM), delivered by Hospital Services Limited (HSL) in partnership with Hologic, RCSI, Bayer and a visiting team led by Dr Jacopo Nori from Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy. The event had a dual aspect to it, with sessions designed for radiologists as well as for mammographers.

The programme combined expert presentations, case-based learning and hands-on workstation sessions to provide a comprehensive overview of current CEM practice. Topics included imaging protocols, reporting approaches and the expanding role of CEM in breast cancer diagnosis, staging, treatment planning and follow-up care.

Faculty members explored the clinical applications of CEM through a range of case studies, covering pre-surgical assessment, post-treatment surveillance, lobular carcinoma, neoadjuvant treatment monitoring, CEM-guided biopsy, ductal carcinoma in situ and B3 lesions.

Delegates participated in an interactive case review session, applying structured reporting protocols while reviewing CEM examinations at dedicated mammography workstations. The session encouraged discussion, peer learning and practical experience in image interpretation.

The event concluded with presentations on the Irish experience of implementing CEM, highlighting key lessons learned, opportunities and challenges in integrating the modality into routine clinical practice.
