Wolverson X-Ray keeps historic imaging system functional with a detailed service

Equipment supplier Wolverson X-Ray has serviced a legacy x-ray system it originally installed in the 1970s, highlighting both the longevity of early imaging equipment and the importance of specialist maintenance in keeping older units operational when they are still in clinical use.
The machine, powered by early glass vacuum valve technology, required a full assessment to determine its current condition and safety for continued operation. Despite its age, the unit remained structurally sound, but a detailed and methodical approach was essential to bring it back to full working order.
Wolverson X-Ray engineers carried out comprehensive mechanical and electrical inspections, checking all key components for wear, stability and functionality. A full electrical safety test ensured the system met modern safety expectations.
Following this, the system underwent a medical physics critical examination. This confirmed that image quality and radiation performance remained within acceptable limits for diagnostic use. Once all stages were completed the system was deemed fully functional and safe for clinical operation.
“We continue to support healthcare providers by ensuring older systems can be safely assessed, maintained and returned to service where they still play a role in clinical care,” the company explains.
