Liverpool team hopes guide will increase the use of NM

Checking out the EANM guide are radiographer Dr Chris Mayes, Professor Sobhan Vinjamuri and SpR in nuclear medicine Dr Ruth Menghis.
As a European centre for the treatment of neuroendocrine tumours, the Royal Liverpool University Hospital is helping to pioneer the use of radioactive cancer patients.
A team from the hospital’s nuclear medicine department has helped write a guide to the therapy, which was launched at the European Association of Nuclear Medicine’s annual congress in Lyon, France.
Authors from the hospital, Professor Sobhan Vinjamuri, doctors Ruth Menghis and Brian Lowry and radiographer Dr Chris Mayes, were invited to contribute chapters on the alleviation of bone pain in cancer patients, targeted therapy for inflammatory diseases of the joints and radionuclide therapy for neuroendocrine tumours.
Dr Chris Mayes, who attended the launch, said: “It was a great privilege to be asked to contribute to this guide which will be used not only in Europe, but the rest of the world. The use of nuclear medicine techniques to treat disease is developing at a rapid pace and I hope this book will help to improve the understanding and increase the use of these invaluable therapies.”
