Sonography software updates strengthen ultrasound reporting across NHS Wales

Hospitals across Wales have enhanced their ultrasound reporting capabilities through the rollout of ViewPoint 6, an advanced sonography reporting system delivered by Health Net Connections (HNC). The platform integrates ultrasound reporting workflows with existing hospital IT infrastructure.
The implementation represents a major milestone for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board with the technology helping to standardise ultrasound reporting processes and create a more connected, enterprise-wide imaging record across NHS Wales.
Building on successful implementations at multiple Welsh health boards, the deployment marked a critical step in addressing the challenges of scale, complexity and integration across diverse clinical systems. Healthcare informatics sales leader at Philips UK and Ireland John Kingan said: “In partnership with NHS Wales and HNC, we’re bringing obstetric reporting into a more standardised, unified, connected environment. This will make it easier for clinicians to access the information they need, work together more effectively, and make faster, informed decisions.”
The implementation presented a complex technical environment, involving integration with multiple third-party systems and large scale user access requirements. Initial external challenges at go-live included system connectivity issues, workflow disruptions due to third-party system changes and delays in image transfer between systems. Despite these pressures, the ViewPoint 6 platform itself remained stable throughout.
HNC sales director Faith Bose said: “With six successful ViewPoint installations across NHS Wales at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Swansea Bay University Health Board, Hywel Dda University Health Board, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Powys Teaching Health Board, we’re helping ensure ultrasound reporting integrates effectively within the wider enterprise landscape.”
