Private hospital Galway Clinic in Ireland has installed a Philips Brilliance iCT SP 128-slice CT scanner and IntelliSpace Portal thin-client workstation solution, replacing a Brilliance 16-slice system.  The clinic is the site of the first private emergency department in the west of Ireland.

Consultant radiologist Dr Brian Lucey said: “Since bringing the scanner into clinical service we have been very impressed by its performance, ease of use and integration into the department.  This has enabled a rapid expansion of the clinical services routinely offered.

“We have been able to introduce a regular cardiac CT service and I have been encouraged by the superb image quality, even at low doses and with patients who present with a high heart rate.  The high temporal resolution provided by the machine’s air bearings has made imaging challenging patients much easier.”
