North west CCG takes service to the community

Med Imaging DEXA technical specialist Peter Kent-Baldwin and nurse Rachel Paglia with the Stratos DR system.
Med Imaging has installed a community-based DEXA bone densitometry service in a national gym outlet to offer faster access for those at risk of developing osteoporosis. Patients will be assessed, scanned using a Stratos DR system and diagnosed in less than 48 hours.
Dr Kinsey said: “With one in three women expected to suffer a fracture caused by osteoporosis many of which could be prevented with adequate screening our focus is to aid primary and secondary prevention in an increasingly ageing population, while raising awareness of the disease.
“It is massively under diagnosed and provision for scanning is currently hugely under resourced. Our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission, while our registered nurses are fully trained by the National Osteoporosis Society in bone densitometry as well as treatment and management of the condition.”
