Churchill’s second SBRT overlay improves liver treatment

OIS sales and applications specialist Siobhan Johnston, advanced practitioner in palliative planning Baljit Jhitta, research radiographer Lisa Durrant and pre-treatment manager Sharon Duxbury.

Following the purchase of a Stradivarius system last year, Churchill Hospital in Oxford has added a second SBRT overlay, supplied by Oncology Imaging Systems.  The overlay is used on top of existing treatment and CT couch tops and forms a base to mount SBRT bridges and compression paddles.  The Stradivarius overlay is optimised for use with a large bore CT scanner and has laser alignment scales and indexing every 70mm.

Research radiographer Lisa Durrant said: “We trialled the system and found it was very robust and within budget.  It has been easy to implement into upper GI, liver and some lung treatments and only required minimal radiographer training.  Patients have tolerated abdominal compression really well and the quality of our CBCT images have improved dramatically as respiratory motion is reduced.  We can now immobilise, image and treat these tumours much more confidently.”
