With the Boot Out Breast Cancer fundraising team are Paralympian and Boot out Breast Cancer patron Dame Sarah Storey, teammate Katie Curtis and Boot out Breast Cancer founder Debbie Dowie, far right.

Britain’s most decorated female Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey DBE took time out from her Rio 2016 Paralympic training regime to open a mammography room at Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool.

A Hologic Selenia Dimensions 2D system with AWS8000 operator console was donated to the breast screening unit at the hospital by charity Boot Out Breast Cancer.  The charity, of which Dame Storey is a patron, raised the funds for the machine through a range of activities, including a Vegas-themed ball in March.

Director of the Liverpool NHS Breast Screening Programme Dr Cathryn Beattie added: “We are extremely grateful to Dame Sarah and teammate Katie Curtis for taking the time out to open our facility.  We would also like to thank everyone who helped to fund the room.  Our screening programme calls 45,000 women for screening each year from which approximately 250 new breast cancers are detected.  This additional machine will enable us to provide an enhanced service to the women of Merseyside.”
