Siemens provides opportunity to devise the next big thing

News

Pupils at schools in Surrey and the south east have come up with solutions to a variety of challenges faced in the healthcare environment and UK market.  Working with local education charity SATRO, mentors and judges supported the Next Big Thing Challenge in which key stage 4 students find out more about the world of engineering and technology.

In April children from five schools presented their prototypes to judges at the Siemens Healthineers offices in Frimley and the LVS Ascot team won.

Teams were asked to produce a prototype or scale model to demonstrate their idea and provide evidence of market research and a basic understanding of their market needs.  Siemens’ employees were allocated to each team to act as mentors and visited the schools to support and give direction to the students.  Entries included an app that allows you to check your health instantly, and device that monitors brain activity to give an early warning to epilepsy patients.
